Travel Photos: Washington DC Memorials

This week’s travel photos are of Washington DC Memorials.

One of the most popular scenes to photograph in the federal district of Washington DC, is the George Washington monument an obelisk which stands tall on the National Mall. The monument commemorates George Washington, the first president of the United States.  At the other end of the water known as the Reflecting Pool, is the Lincoln Memorial.

Our featured photograph above shows the Lincoln Memorial honoring Abraham Lincoln, the 16th president of the United States.

These photographs were submitted by reader Louise Tremblay from her recent trip to the nation’s capital.

Mrs Tremblay told us you could spend two days walking around the National Mall without the need of taking any kind of tour of Washington.  There’s much to see including a number of museums such as the National Museum of American History and the National Air and Space Museum as well as many others.  Also surrounding the Mall are some art galleries, for example, the National Museum of African Art and the Freer Gallery of Art. On the Mall, there are a number of gardens also worth visiting.

Within walking distance of the National Mall you’ll find the Library of Congress and war memorials.

Mrs Tremblay told us she was very impressed with the Washington DC Memorials and says that Washington DC is a very, very interesting city, well worth taking the time to visit this spring or summer.
